catio (a roof, a door, and some wire)

some pretty good progress since the last post...

the roof went on a week ago saturday.  i used some salvaged corrugated metal we've had in our collection of building supplies and a piece of clear polycarbonate (for a skylight) that was left over from when the greenhouse roof went on.

cats are natural roof inspectors

over the next couple days i got the flashing worked out where the roofs meet, put up some fascia board, and caulked the holes in the corrugate that were acquired in its previous life as a roof elsewhere.

at some point i will be putting some rain gutter up but for now all the roof stuff is done.

with the roof taken care of i started thinking on what to do about a door.  i thought first i might modify a door staal took out of the north side of the mill office when he put the french doors in (he's been doing a huge remodel/rebuild on the mill office...to be discussed in a future post either here or on his blog).  once i got into it a little bit i found it was too far gone to be used so i scavenged the hardware and decided i'd build something "new" with some salvaged lumber.

had to at least save these...i'm a big fan of patina, rust, and old paint

decided i'd build the new door out of the same 2x6 redwood (salvaged from the back deck on the place across the street) i used on the fascia and bottom of the framing.

also ended up using some 2x2 from the old chicken tractor.

and some of the old battens from the mill office.

could not resist the old paint and woodpecker holes

then a rough coat of paint to blend the new stuff in with the mill office batten wood.

door built.  time to get some wire up.

that's where we are.  more fun to come.
