snow

started snowing at about 5:00 pm yesterday and continued throughout the night.  here's what we woke up to this morning...

the new ducks hadn't experienced snow before and were a little suspicious about all the white stuff when i opened their shed this morning.

they're a pretty curious bunch and they soon came out to explore and get some breakfast.

was business as usual for the older ducks.

here's a short video of the ducks having a snowy breakfast

zane loves snow.

here's a video of the frisky little snow dog in action

staal tried out a new camera.

how can you not love a man who brings you coffee in the snow?

fig trees

had to be done

the obligatory snow selfie

supposed to get a couple days of sunshine and then more snow next week.

current conditions

mushroom harvest

several of the oyster mushrooms in the greenhouse had some good size on them today so i did a little harvesting.

i ended up with a little over a pound and didn't even make much of a dent in what was there.

i think i know what we're having for dinner tonight.

conjuring magic

little feathered sprites
with bright, mischievous eyes
circling round and round each other
a morning ritual
conjuring magic
with wing beats
dancing lightly on tip-toe
though in their hearts they soar
and i fly with them

first egg

...and some oyster mushrooms starting to size up nicely.

omelette season?
*the egg was laid by one of the older ducks.  the new ducks are still a little too young to lay.

heartbreak

we all have those regrets
for deeds committed
or omitted
in some past life
because we were
ignorant
or lost
or hurting
maybe they were terrible
maybe they weren't
maybe we hurt others
maybe we hurt ourselves
some we let go
or forget
some we keep
in our hearts and minds
or tucked away
in a paper file marked
HEARTBREAK

only love (an early valentine)

to be able
to shed the notion
that i am here
and you are there
to rest in the wisdom
of the heart
that knows
there is no i here
no you there
that there is no here
or there
that knows
there is only love

reality

in the long dark of night
when reality seems cold and hard and confusing
i'm not sure what to say
we can wait it out together
in the comfort of each other's warmth
knowing that with the rising sun
will dawn a new perspective

in the golden light of morning
little tufts of down
littering the bright green grass
sparkle with dew
like tiny fallen stars
a constellation under foot
how marvelous
that reality can be so soft

saturday fun

yard sale and a little exploring with my two favorite guys this afternoon.

yard sale treasure: a cute little ceramic duck

stopped to explore the rocks and pools of a seasonal creek on the way home.

mind and body

lifting
counting
breathing
the mind settles
and the body delights
in the rhythm
of its own movement
