This is water storage pot number two in the orchard garden. The build took place over several months as time and weather permitted.
New techniques and strategies were employed, skills were refined, areas of weakness were identified and strengthened. Creative and physical energies manifested something new and useful.
It was suggested that the pot be given a name (a Japanese name).
Meet The Gatherer (Shūshū-sha)
Some minor finish and touch-up work to do but, The Gatherer, Shūshū-sha, is functional and in service.
So beautiful! Perfect name!
ReplyDeleteThat is fucking cooooool! And so much more engineered than I would have thought!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Quite the project. Practical AND a piece of art! Love it…Auntie
ReplyDeleteWow Melina! That is very cool and creative. I enjoy all the new things you come up with and create. Perfect name. Gatherer
ReplyDeleteIt's a work of art plain and not so simple, but beautiful. Great work, sis!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I was thinking--the name "Gatherer" is exemplary! And it's true--it's complexity masquerading as simplicity. Where did you get the idea from? It combines the esthetics of art and the science of conservation of the natural environment. Like everyone else, I like what you have accomplished and thank you for sending the pictures along with the explanation, without which what it is and what its purpose is would be unknown.
ReplyDeleteI can't claim the idea for the gatherer. I actually regret sharing this post because I can see now how it looks like I am calling attention to something I have done. I haven't done anything. My sharing is more like calling someone's attention to something as one might when on a walk...like "look at that flower!" or "check out that neat bird!"
DeleteThe design was original. The name came of itself. But I didn't do anything. This isn't modesty or humility.
DeleteI'm sorry that I don't have the knack to explain any of it in a way anyone will understand and trying to be understood isn't worth the effort. There's nothing more I have to say.
Super impressed! Super impressive!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the commenters, in particular Aischa, who hit the nail on the head.
ReplyDeleteMelina, you're unnecessarily, but typically, modest.
You erroneously said you haven't done anything. Actually, you have:
ReplyDeleteI once read or heard something to the effect that there is as much greatness in recognizing greatness as in the greatness itself. Likewise, there is as much merit in recognizing the merit (and aptness) of a name someone else used and adopting it and applying it to your own artistic and scientific creation as there was in the original choice of the name.
One who identifies and produces a Shakespearean play did not write the play, but is properly celebrated for the choice of someone else's play and the way in which it is interpreted and presented. Similarly with your "Gatherer": It is indeed YOUR Gatherer, irrespective of the provenance of the name, and congratulations on your artistry and skill in creating it!
